Artist Statement
Winter Blew In captures the ethereal quality of the wind. Honeycomb cardboard is an ideal substrate for encaustic artwork, it is light-weight and rigid. By removing a layer of the surface paper, I was able to create a substrate that conveys a sense of openness. Translucent Lunaria (silver dollar) seed pods swirl and dance in the air. To represent the movement of the wind I used gestural directional brush strokes in a cool, soft and airy colour palette.
