Artist Statement
I’ve created works that are at once painting and sculpture— pushing the limits of the medium to create depth and dimension while using colour and patterning to emphasize the brushstrokes.
The word accretion means “the process of growth by the gradual build up of layers.” This is the perfect way to describe my painting process. In these works, countless layers are built upon, resulting in abstracted rhythms or patterns.
I used the encaustic accretion technique to emulate the tactile qualities found in nature, to convey the roughness of bark, the intricate textures of flower petals, or waves on water, adding depth and a sensory dimension to the artwork.
