Artist Statement
This sculptural quality is one of the things that sets encaustic painting apart from other traditional two-dimensional art forms. The physical properties of the wax medium and the accretion technique combine to create depth and dimension.
People are fascinated by the texture I have created in this body of work but it is actually more challenging is creating a smooth encaustic surface. I’ve paired smooth surfaces with the textured elements to create a visually interesting and dynamic contrast.
