Artist Statement
“Below the Surface” takes advantage of the translucent quality of handmade Japanese Washi. By manipulating molten wax on the heated palette, I created two encaustic monotype prints filled with gestural abstract marks. In a serendipitous turn, as I worked, I inadvertently laid one on top of the other, creating an unintended topographic depth as their marks intertwined. Lean in closer; this piece urges you to explore the beauty of happenstance and the concealed depths below.
